Responsibly Harvested Golden Alaskan King Crab Meat

At Maine Lobster Now, we understand the importance of the long-term sustainability of seafood products for coastal communities worldwide. In order to offer you king crab meat today and in the future, we exclusively collaborate with fisheries that adhere to all local, federal, and international rules and regulations for responsibly harvesting king crab, ensuring continued access to these crustaceans for future generations.

Unmatched Quality and Freshness

Maine Lobster Now sources crabmeat to be the freshest and tastiest it can be for our customers. Highly prized by local fishermen, our Golden King Crabs are captured in the frigid waters of the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska. Upon landing at the docks, it is immediately cooked, sometimes brined, and flash-frozen before being shipped directly to us. It’s impossible to experience fresher king crab unless you take a boat out on the water and catch it yourself (which we don’t recommend).

As part of our commitment to responsibly harvested seafood, Maine Lobster Now responsibly sources red and golden king crabs from two distinct regions of the world. Traditionally, Alaskan red and golden king crab has been sourced from, you guessed it, the Alaskan coast in the Bering Sea.

We also source Alaskan king crab from a growing, invasive population that migrated north of Norway. This helps Norway combat the threat and maintain a more viable ecosystem in their waterways while ensuring the beloved seafood is caught using traditional, sustainable methods.

Unlike many of our competitors, we do not source our crabs from Russia, due to lax oversight and accountability of sustainable fishing practices in the region.

Know the Serving Size of Colossal Golden Alaskan King Crab Legs

Ordering Alaskan king crab legs can be confusing since the weight includes both the hard exoskeleton and the meat inside. We’ll help you sort out serving sizes. On average, a Colossal King Crab Leg is about .75 lbs., or 12 oz. Crab legs yield about 50% meat, so 1 leg contains about 6 oz. of meat.

The standard portion size is 5 oz. So that means 1-2 Colossal Alaskan King Crab Legs will be enough to feed 1 person when served with classic New England appetizers or side dishes to complement the meal.

We recommend red potatoes, great for baking, frying, or mashing, or Applewood-Smoked Bacon-Wrapped Scallops. Round out your Maine crab dinner with a sweet treat, like Labadie's Bakery, chocolate and vanilla Whoopie Pie.

Nutritional Benefits of Golden Alaskan King Crab Meat

Crabmeat is a high-protein meat source that comes packed with vitamins and minerals. Like other shellfish and seafood we sell, crab could be added to the growing list of “superfoods” health experts recommend.
Crabmeat offers a whopping 16 grams of protein per 3 oz. serving.

Crabmeat also contains vitamins B12 and C, and the antioxidants zinc and selenium. Zinc helps support bone mass and immune function, while selenium aids in preventing cellular damage. And there’s more. Crabmeat is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help lower inflammation and can reduce the risk of heart disease.
